International Women’s Day

IWD, originally is called International Working Women’s Day, is marked on March 8 every year.In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respest, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women’s economic, political and social achievements. The first national Women’s Day was observed on 28 february 1909. In 1913 Russian women obsereved their first IWD and from its official adoption in Russia the holiday was predominantly celebrated in a lot of countries including Armenia. Well, in our country after the collapse of the Soviet Union celebrations of IWD were abandoned. Instead, April 7 was introduces as state holiday of Beauty and Motherhood. Of course the new holiday immediately became popular among us , as it commemorates one of the main holidays of the Armenian Church, the Annunciation ,however we still keep celebrating IWD on March 8 as well. And in the end it resulted in the recognition of the so called “Women's Month” which is the period between March 8 and April 7.

As we mentioned above a lot of countries have this beautiful holiday and a lot of women get warm attitude and gorgeous presents but we are twice as lucky than other women, we have a whole month of holiday full of roses and lilies , warm congrats and smiles. I
